From the Journal
Notes from the workshop
A thousand years of kilns in one city, and why almost no one in the West knows the artisans' names.
Still done by hand, still no way to automate it. What happens before the kiln.
Turn it over and look at the foot. Fifteen seconds tells you most of it.

About JINGEE
Founded upon a millennium of living heritage from Jingdezhen, JINGEE collaborates with individual artists to bring truly unique and timeless treasures from makers into everyday life — pieces that live and age beautifully with you.
A Thousand Years of Fire, in the Objects You Use Every Day
A Thousand Years of Fire, in the Objects You Use Every Day
For more than 1,000 years, Jingdezhen this one Chinese city has done little but fire clay. Jingdezhen has produced everything from imperial wares for ancient palaces to the first global "china," and it fires pottery still. JINGEE partners with artisans there, using this rich, 10-century tradition to create pieces you can use at your table, or in your hands.
All our ware starts the same. Hand-made by the potters whose family craft was born generations ago, every piece is wheel-thrown or hand-built using the finest natural clay. We color them using natural mineral glazes and fire each to over 1,300°C – the intense heat required to turn soft, pliable clay into incredibly hard porcelain. Since each is shaped and painted by hand, no two pieces of JINGEE are ever precisely the same, and the subtle variations are evidence that not a machine, but an artist shaped the object in your hands.
The Mugs You'll Want to Start Your Day. JINGEE Ceramic Mugs are made for more than just coffee – they are built for that first cup that sets your day right, weighty in your hand and silky to your lip. You can also choose from ceramic coffee cups, latte cups, cappuccino cups, delicate ceramic espresso cups and a matched tea cup and saucer for leisurely afternoons. All feature the distinct, hand-carved patterns Jingdezhen is renowned for.
Our essential ceramic mugs are also the best-crafted objects on your shelf.
Sculptural Pieces That Define a Room
A room’s character is often set by its smallest details. Our ceramic vases range from delicate bud vase to bold, white centerpieces designed to hold lush bouquets – or stand entirely alone as objects of beauty. These taper and black candle holders create intimate spaces for dinner, and a hand-finished cigar ashtray brings the subtle craft found throughout Jingdezhen’s 1,000 years to an item often passed over for mass production.
The Kiln Garden:
Art that Lasts. Our most fantastical pieces double as artwork-realistic, handmade fruit meticulously rendered from porcelain clay. In our Kiln Garden, every individual pomegranate dining table centerpiece maintains its vibrant color long after real fruit rots, and ceramic pumpkins provide an autumnal touch that can last through spring. Feel free to call them fruit stand art – it's a more portable, permanent still life, and you’ll never have to discard one for browning.
Our Ware Is Made to Last, and to Be Heirloom-Quality
At JINGEE, “less, but better” is more than a saying – it is an essential guiding principal. We create JINGEE pieces with the intention that they live alongside you, used daily for a century, and passed from one generation to the next. They are not disposable-fast-fashion accessories; they are small works of ceramic art meant to age beautifully with their owner, be a valued gift, or become an heirloom.
Real craft, from Jingdezhen whose name is synonymous with porcelain, made for a richer, more sustainable life.
